Is there enough assistance for immigrants that are completing the immigration process legally?

Is there enough every day support for them once they are in the U.S. to do something as simple as writing a check to something slightly more complicated like opening a bank account?

How do immigrants decide on the resources they use for support and assistance? Word of mouth typically I'm assuming? Is the biggest problem a matter of trusting the resource?
