> Proposed Cancellation Of Green Cards Without Cancellation Date
I just read several places online that the USCIS is considering to cancel the green cards without an expiration date. Some quotes from various articles are:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The new measure, which is not yet final, will require over 750,000 US residents to renew their green card despite having no expiry date. The cost of replacement is estimated at $370 per card, with $290 in replacement application fees and $80 for electronic fingerprints and a photo.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Many permanent resident cards, a/k/a “green cards,” issued prior to 1989, contain no expiration date. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has published a proposed rule that would require permanent residents holding a green card with no expiration date to apply for a new permanent resident card. The proposed rule would also terminate the validity of any green card without an expiration date.

I have had my green card for about 20 years now. I am now supposed to get one that I have to renew? And pay every 10 year for? It is so expensive! Why are they doing this? I have no idea of what the required documents would be. My tax returns? Or???

When is this supposed to take effect? I hope it takes many years to get this going, if going at all. It seems unfair that once you get the green card, you have to give it up and go through the application process one more time. What happens if you fail? Will you have to leave the country???

I have more questions than common answers!
