My friend came to US on student visa (F1), when she applied she stated as single in her application in the consulate. but she was married to a guy, the marriage was not registered so they did not put it in the application. Now it has been 5 year since she has been here. During this time period the relationship went bad. The guy is still in their home country. These people haven't talked in 3 years. Since then she falls in love with a guy in the US and wants to get married. Now the ex is trying to blackmail her saying that he is going to report to the consulate and ask them to deport her cause she lied in the application form. I was wondering if that was possible and will she be deported for this reason?

- Is the marriage still legal in the home country?
- Can she get legally divorced in the home country?

If the F1 application stated that she was single and not married because the marriage was not legally conducted, then she is still single! You got to figure out the legal situation in the home country.
