I am from Ireland and my boyfriend is from New York. We have applied for the petition for my visa to move over there and marry within the 90 days. We met in Australia over 2 years ago and now have a beautiful 7 month old son, we are now living apart as I returned home to Ireland with my son and my boyfriend returned to US to set up home for us and apply for the visa. The thing is we are hoping this application does not take too long as the baby is growing so fast and it is very sad that his father has to miss out on so much of his first year. I was told 5 months of a wait but I think that is just crazy. Can you please tell me how long the visa will take and if there is any way I can help speed things up? I don't think it is possible for me to visit while the visa is being processed and it is very difficult for my boyfriend to take too much time off work to come here, plus it is expensive... If any body has any advise it would be greatly appreciated.

I too came to the USA on a K1 visa and unfortunately it took about 14 months from when we applied to me actually arriving here.

It is such a long and drawn out process - the longest wait was for the 'interview' at the American Embassy. Once they approved my application I then had to wait for my medical.

It does seem to take forever but all I can say is be patient! It will all be worth it in the end. There is no hurrying along US Immigration. They go at their own pace and although it is frustrating for you, there is nothing you can do about it.

It sounds like you have a pretty straight forward case and that it will be approved eventually.
